Probably one of the coolest things I missed out on in Final Fantasy VIII

Now I can remember back when I was around twelve years old. I was more than likely just sitting in my room playing Final Fantasy VII, one of my all time favorite video games that I am pretty sure my parents cursed under their breaths because I was more worried about leveling my Materia than leveling up my grades in Math. One of my friends decided to call and interrupt my AP grinding to tell me that he had just purchased the new Final Fantasy VIII game for the PlayStation one. Needless to say I was extraordinarily excited for this release because in my mind "Oh my god the graphics are so cool!" meant that it was going to be a good game. I found out later on in life that I was more attracted to the story but that is for later. I went down to my friends house who thankfully lived less than five minutes walking distance from me and went to his room and we both watched the opening movie that neither of us had seen yet. Needless to say our little twelve year old minds were blown sky high and into the reaches of deep space. If you've never seen the intro to Final Fantasy VIII, go to YouTube and check it out. It's awesome. Retro but awesome.
Now unfortunately I did not possess the money to run out and purchase this new game so I could play it too so I decided that I would watch my friend play it. Big mistake. It ruined a lot of the story for me but that is fine because I have long since forgotten it now and I just recently picked it back up on Steam for something like twelve dollars. Pretty awesome if you ask me. Continuing, my friend would play this game almost as much as I would play Final Fantasy VII, so pretty much nonstop. Before I knew it he was already on disc 2 and not even three days had passed. He couldn't put it down. Then I was introduced to one of the coolest little things that was available for the PlayStation one at the time. My best friends brother's friend had purchased a PlayStation Pocket that my best friend was borrowing and what it did was it allowed him to take one of the monsters from Final Fantasy VIII, Chicobo the baby Chocobo and play a bunch of mini games on it. Now this was very similar to things like Tamagotchi and Digimon handheld virtual pets and the like but what I was not informed of was that Chicobo could find items for you and then transfer them back to your saved file on your memory card. Some of these items were just little things that one would not really care about but then sometimes there would be very powerful, rare items along with a few that you could only get through using the Chocobo World mini game with the PlayStation Pocket. Needless to say I was very jealous but that is in the past.
Like I stated earlier, I recently picked this game back up a few days ago from the ever so wonderful thing called Steam. I loaded it up and the first thing I noticed was that it had a "Chocobo World" button. I clicked on it and a little box open up on my computer monitor and before I knew it, I was cruising around as a baby Chocobo, tearing up ghosts, finding Cactuars and getting weapons from a Moomba. I spent about three hours playing it and I have managed to already secure at least 4 or 5 items that have the potentiality to be rare items. Needless to say I was very happy that Square Enix put this into the PC version of Final Fantasy VIII and glad that Steam was able to use it. It brought me back to my childhood and let the floodgate that held my memories in tact come bursting open for a moment before I had to force it shut to keep from sounding like a twelve year old again. All in all, well worth twelve dollars in my opinion.
